John Wood 4R100 Valve Body 7.3L Powerstroke 1996-2003

We offer modified accumulator valve bodies from John Wood Automotive because it is our experience that they are one of the best offered in the industry.  John Wood has been building transmissions and valve bodies since 1983 and has a reputation for strong attention to detail, quality before quantity and excellent customer service.

A JW Valve Body will help to firm up shifting, while keeping the shifts crisp and not banging into gear.  Also performs shorter shift duration, which decreases heat generated and reduces slippage and wear on the friction plates. While the valve body can be used with stock programming, we suggest a PHP Hydra if you are thinking of upgrading.

Please note that there is a 4 week window for core returns from when you receive the shipment.  If the core isn't received back 30 days from customer receipt then your core charge will be forfeited.

Core Shipping Options:

  • Pre-Ship Core - This allows you to ship your used cores in first without have to pay a core charge. Your order will ship once your cores are received.
  • Return After Install - This is the quickest option to get your valve body. You pay the core fee up front and then it is refunded once the core is returned.
1994-2003 4R100 Transmission This part is unable to be returned after received.

    Shifts are scary smooth

After installing VB, the shifts are so smooth its hard to tell it even shifted. Doesn't matter if you're cruising, towing, or under a load like climbing a hill.

    JW valve body

Feels like a whole different transmission. Locks up sooner and much faster shifts. This should be the first mod anyone does to their 7.3 with a 4r100. Highly recommended

    John wood valve body

Installation was a breeze. Transmission was acting like a 5 speed prior to install instead of 4. Old valve body appears to have had a broken spring in it. Shifts now are really quick and firm almost a bit to stiff but its probably alot better for the transmission. Highly recommend to anyone having any similar issues with there 4r100. Great product thanks riff raff

    Don't forget the small filter!

Posted by Ray Schork on Jun 17th 2019

Part swapped in and out pretty easy. Must have is an in-lb torque wrench. There's a small filter that pops out when you remove the valve body. Don't forget to put it back. Transmission shifts much better now and my shift flare is eliminated.

    Performance when Installed in a 2001 F-450, 7.3 turbodiesel

Posted by Bobby Faughn on Jun 11th 2019

This truck is nearly 12,000 lbs empty. The John Woods Valve body immediately cured flaring on shifts and a hard 1-2 shift. Every shift now, up or down is flawless in every respect.
