Impressive Turbo, Great Price, expected a little more from it

Posted by Rhett on Feb 12th 2018

I did a lot of research before buying a new turbo for my truck. I do a lot of hauling 14k pound load average. Also use my truck as my daily driver. Riff Raff was definitely the best price for this turbo! How ever you have to adjust the shaft to get the boost they say you can get. Has turbo surge, which i thought was ridiculous for a 1300 dollar brand new turbo. EGTs only drop in specific situations and in specific gears and RPMs and speeds. Over all EGTs have gone up some. Spools crazy fast and can make great boost and added a lot of power to my truck.
Great turbo with great power but I dont feel like the turbo meets all the hype that others have seen.

Love this turbo! Should have put it on the day i got my 7.3!!

Posted by Unknown on Jan 2nd 2018

Direct fit with no modifications required. Thing has no turbo lag compared to stock, i get better mpg and it sounds amazing. Best thing ive done to the 7.3 so far! Makes 27-29lbs unloaded on stock fule with a chip. If you're in the fence about this kit id go for it its bad ass!

    Absolutely amazing!

I made this purchased after the turbine shaft came apart on my stock GTP38. I was immediately impressed by the response time of this turbo. On my stock turbo I could floor it and it would take a few seconds to get to 20-22 psi but this GTP38R scares me ( in a good way). I floored it for the first time the other day (was scared to do since my truck has 237K+ miles and the previous owner hadn't done a good job keeping up with it), before I could even look up at my gauge it had already registered 25+ psi! The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars in my book is it's loud. There's a whine from this turbo when it's spooled and I'll grow used to it but others may not be able to handle it.

As advertised, really like it on our Excursion. Lots oF whistle and whine! Builds boost quick.

    Turbo replacement

Easy to replace with no modifications required. I bought it because my stock one needed to be rebuilt and it was a factory replacement

Nothing is ever easy. But worth it

Posted by Keith H on Jun 25th 2017

2000 f250 7.3 did the danjo bolts CVDs oil cross over FRX fuel and 38r tubo hardiest thing too do on turbo swap is hooking it up to the up pipes before u can put it on the pedestal. Me and the up pipes had words.
EGTs are around 500degs at 75 that's around 150 to 200degs cooler then before have not taken any long trips wit too check fuel miles.

    engineering at its best

Posted by del g. on May 15th 2017

great product not only looks well engineered but preforms great also. I am very pleased with the purchase of the 38r, the boost increase over the stock turbo is unreal. I don't hear the whistle sound that some 38r owners talk about, I have a lot of other mods like headers, free flowing filter system (not k&n) and lightly ported heads maybe that has a lot to do with the sound. thanks riff raff
