High Pressure Oil Rail End Plug & Gasket Set (4) - Ford 7.3L (94-03)

Oil rail plugs located on either end of the cylinder head require a specialty o-ring if they begin to leak. This is the large round 1 3/4" plug with the 1/2" drive socket hole. During engine rebuild it is good practice to replace these plugs and gaskets since they are almost impossible to reach once the engine is installed in the bay.

Order of 1 is 4 plugs, gasket o-ring and instruction sheet.

Ford and Navistar's instructions require the use of LocTite 277 threadlocker on the Oil Rail End plugs

    Rail End Plug Installation Tip

Posted by Dave B on Jun 19th 2019

The right plug is especially a bear to get at. Go to your local hardware store and buy a piece of 1/2" key stock about 1.5" long. You'll find it in one of those "specialty" hardware trays in the big box stores.
Insert the key stock into a 15mm swivel gear wrench, then work the key stock into the recessed !/2" square hole in the old plugs. It takes both hands but it brought it right out with a little of grunt effort. Worked for me.

Cylinder head oil rail end plug 7.3L

Posted by Unknown on Sep 24th 2018

Part arrived as scheduled. Nice price. It was hard to change it out on my 97 F350 7.3L but it is do able without moving the engine. My friend and I unbolted the down pipe from the turbo and lifted it up and over just enough with a crowbar and a prybar together. Recommend a very thin 1/2 drive ratchet to ratchet out the plug.

    Head plugs

Pulled my injectors for o-rings, figured I should do these while the oil rail was drained. Fronts were a snap, rears were a bit of a nuisance but I also had my old uppipes out so the process was not too bad!
